Barrow fire death woman named as Clara RedfernAn elderly woman killed in a house fire in Cumbria has been named by police.
Clara Redfern, 82, was in her home on Strathaird Avenue, Barrow, when the blaze started early on 18 June.
Neighbours and a police officer managed to rescue an 83-year-old man who was also in the property at the time. He is in a stable condition in hospital.
The police officer was treated for the effects of smoke but was not seriously hurt. The fire is not being treated as suspicious.
Det Insp Doug Marshall of Cumbria Police said: "This was a really tragic incident and our thoughts and sympathies are with Mrs Redfern's family.
"During this very difficult time the family has expressed how grateful they are to the neighbours and the police officer who were first on scene and who acted quickly and bravely to bring the 83-year-old man to safety.
"Our investigation into the cause of the fire indicates that there are no suspicious circumstances at this time and the case has been passed to the coroner."
